University of Georgia

Located in Dawson and Barrow Halls (on the southern campus) the University of Georgia art department (which is commonly referred to as the department of textiles and merchandising) is a pivotal part of the overall university operations.

Operating under the sciences and family education division, the aim of the arts department at the University of Georgia is simple. It is to excel students to levels of creativity and innovation which they might never have known that they had.

Fashion Research at University of Georgia

The University of Georgia is renowned for its dedicated fashion research department, which is dedicated to keeping students up to date with the latest fashion information. Because the fashion industry is subject to change at a moment's notice - staff are prepared for this, and courses do evolve from semester to semester.

As such, the undergraduate program may contain any number of the following topics in a given semester:

  • Interior Design.
  • Kitchen and Living Area Design.
  • Fashion Design and Marketing.
  • Fashion Merchandising.
  • Fashion Communication and Non-Verbal Communication.

Each of these courses has carefully sculpted content which is relevant, timely, and useful. Additionally, students are able to study these subjects at also any level, whether it be Associate, Bachelor or even Master levels.

Learning at University of Georgia

Student life and the learning process at the University of Georgia is centered around the students. Whilst the university is large in comparison to other fashion schools, its tight knit community is always available to help via peer sessions and extra tuition.

To prove this, the mission statement of the university is as follows:

  • Provide educationally sound information and learning materials.
  • Build a curriculum which allows for useful and relevant knowledge to be gained.
  • Educate students by encouraging further development of their abilities.
  • Apply and conduct research to ensure timely information is always taught.

So does the university pull through on its promise? Graduates and current students seem to think so. In addition to the above factors, the university has strong ties in the community - with links to business and corporate institutions being just another one of the perks of the school.

Students should feel comfortable knowing that if they excel in their studies, and show a true flare for fashion design - their studies will be rewarded with job offers at the end of their program.
