Seattle Pacific University
The Seattle Pacific University offers students the opportunity to participate in a 67 credit fashion design course (under the apparel design umbrella), with 3 years of study time. The course is run through the arts and textiles department, and is a popular program each year, attracting over 400 students.
From the very first day at the university, you'll be involved in activities from textile design labs all the way through to extracurricular activities such as field trips and job expo events - all in the name of career success.
But how do you gain admission and what does the core course have to offer?
Core Courses at Seattle Pacific University
The university actually offers two different fashion related courses:
- Clothing and Textile Major.
- Fashion Merchandising Major.
Whilst each of these courses clearly involves fashion on some level, the degree to which "design" itself is involved does indeed differ between the two. Firstly, clothing and textile majors are more hands-on - requiring more lab and studio time, and more planning / creating of new works.
On the other hand, the fashion merchandising degree requires less actual design, and more theoretical knowledge. Modules in this course can easily be taken through the internet - as less practical content is involved.
Papers Required to Achieve Educational Standards
In order to graduate from the Seattle Pacific University with a certificate (i.e. a Bachelorette degree), you'll need to successfully pass the course modules which make up the degree. A few of the types of modules you'll be sitting include:
- Basic Clothing Construction.
- Flat Pattern Design.
- Appearance and Culture.
- CAD Apparel Design.
This latter point is one which students often look for in a university course. CAD design is computer animation of projected fashion designs - before they are actually made. Most universities choose to exclude this module from their program due to time constraints.
However, because the course at Seattle Pacific University is a full 36 month (3 year) length, time can be afforded for this more comprehensive schedule.
Admission to Seattle Pacific University
There are very few requirements when it comes to applying to Seattle Pacific University. You must have completed high school, and you must be able to submit an up to date portfolio of your work. Aside from this, decision on admission lies completely with the judging panel - so it's best to try and impress them from the get-go!
