North Carolina State University

The North Carolina State University offers possibly one of the largest ranges of textile based degrees in America. Four individual degrees are available through different departments in the university, all of which place textile design alongside another topic for added comprehensiveness.

Undergraduate study admission is simple. An application needs to be submitted along with a portfolio of design ideas and themes. This will give judges a better idea of who you are, and whether or not your design motivations meet the standard (or fit in with the context) of the applicable degree.

Courses Available through North Carolina State University

Courses offered at the North Carolina State University all include textile design and management as the main portion of the learning modules - however they all add a different slant to the overall degree. Take a look at the following available courses:

  • Textile & Apparel Management + Technology
  • Textile Engineering + Chemistry and Science
  • Textile Extension Education for Economic Development
  • Textile Management + Analytical and Product Development Services

Whilst this may all seem a little bit technical, once you review the course catalogues for each of these degrees, you'll soon notice the differences between them. The largest variation is between the Textile Engineering degree and the other three, as the former is a science and chemistry based (i.e. textile production focused) degree. Keep this information in mind when you apply for the applicable course you are interested in.

Student Services and Career Center

The North Carolina State University offers a fully student focused cooperation centre, where students are able to seek advice on their courses and career prospects. Say for example that you need to find employment immediately after the completion of your degree. The student career services department will put your name and portfolio out there to local businesses - to give you a head start to the job hunting.

Aside from this, regular extracurricular activities are planned by the student centre, ensuring that student life is exciting, interesting, and flexible. There's nothing worse than attending a university and only having study as an option.

Hence, North Carolina State University clearly does all that it can to satisfy student demands and needs on a regular basis.

Student Associations at North Carolina State University

No real university would be complete without student organisations. At North Carolina State, students have the option of joining associations such as:

  • African-American Textile Society
  • American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists
  • Delta Kappa Phi

Again, this goes a long way to enhance the student experience at the university, and it is yet another attractive option giving a clear advantage to North Carolina State University over other institutions.
