New York School of Design
The New York School of Design is based in the heart of Manhattan, with courses available throughout the year to satisfy the tremendous demand which is currently present for fashion based courses.
By enrolling and confirming your interest in any one of the following courses, students have found the New York School of Design to be a hugely valuable organisation on the road to a hugely successful career. Some of the fashion related courses on offer include:
- Fashion Technical Design
- CAD for Fashion
- Fashion Design Portfolio Construction
- Photoshop and Illustrator for Fashion Design
- Retailing and Merchandising for Fashion
Each of the courses above is a standalone program, taught by independent professors - all of whom are professionals in their applicable areas. By learning from the best, essential skills and abilities are gained which can give you the upper hand against someone else who might have studied at another institution.
Student Services at New York School of Design
Student services at the NY School of Design are possibly the most comprehensive of any university in the state. Whilst the website is somewhat unattractive, e-learning and communication is a big part of the learning process.
Students receive notes both before and after classes, pre-empting the content which will be taught in the upcoming lesson and reiterating the content which was just covered. Additionally, e-learning provides a medium by which students can catch up on work if they are unfortunate enough to miss a class session.
Other campus based student services consist of:
- Transcripts for students (available in hard copy or electronically).
- Computer tutorial lab.
- Orientation assistance.
- Student records keeping (file management).
- Job placement service.
The job placement service is an exciting recent addition to the array of services offered by the New York School of Design. Students are able to sign contracts before they even graduate, thanks to the relationships built throughout the city by the university.
Further, community participation goes one step further, with fashion organisations throughout New York State being offered a chance to have a representative visit the school periodically. In the past, these representatives have offered unique perspectives on work, and have provided students with an alternative viewpoint (often different from the instructors).
All in all, whilst many people would think contrasting opinions would be contradictory, the New York School of Design embraces difference of opinion, and therefore the outside / external visitor program is largely a success.
